Roma, 23 aprile 2021 – Terapia del dolore. Per quanto riguarda il settore “non oncologico” si parla di 305 centri, di cui 164 al Nord, 64 al Centro e 77 al Sud. Si tratta di strutture dove gli specialisti di riferimento sono gli anestesisti e rianimatori, che nell’ultimo anno sono stati dirottati sulla pandemia, portando ad una riduzione degli accessi e prestazioni, e ad un aumento al ricorso alla telemedicina. Questa è la fotografia che emerge dal censimento realizzato fra gli specialisti di terapia del dolore, presentato al congresso della Società Italiana di Anestesia, Analgesia, Rianimazione e Terapia intensiva (Siaarti).
In questi centri, vengono seguiti pazienti che soffrono di dolore cronico grave, di cui circa il 50% affetti da mal di schiena, il 30% da osteoartrosi, e l’11% da fibromialgia. Su quest’ultima patologia, rileva Arturo Cuomo, coordinatore del gruppo di studio Siarrti Dolore oncologico e cure palliative, “i terapisti del dolore sono visti ancora come figure secondarie nel percorso di cura. Serve un maggiore impegno in termini di offerta, anche alla luce delle previste patologie dolorose nei long Covid”. E proprio la pandemia ha messo “in sofferenza molti centri di terapia del dolore, che si sono visti sottrarre specialisti, portando ad una riduzione di attività e accessi dei pazienti. Una situazione a cui si è cercato di ovviare con un’accelerazione della telemedicina, uso dell’intelligenza artificiale e telemonitoraggi, soprattutto per controlli e follow up”, continua.
Dall’indagine è emerso inoltre che ogni struttura dispone mediamente di 2-3 specialisti. Gli ultimi dati del 2019 parlano di una media di 1774-2000 visite l’anno fatte per centro, con un’esecuzione in media da 170 a 300 procedure terapeutiche e 18 tipi di procedure invasive e mini-invasive, che vanno dalla radiofrequenza alla neuromodulazione spinale. Ogni mese ogni specialista tratta circa 70 pazienti con dolore cronico grave.
