Roma, 15 dicembre 2021 – Il 15 dicembre è la Giornata Nazionale del Servizio civile universale. E su questo tema è intervenuto il presidente della Repubblica Sergio Mattarella. Per Mattarella, il Servizio Civile “costituisce una preziosa occasione per tributare un adeguato riconoscimento all’impegno dei numerosissimi giovani che ogni anno, spinti da un forte spirito civico, partecipano ai vari progetti di Servizio civile messi in campo, anche sfidando contesti emergenziali come quelli imposti della pandemia che stiamo ancora affrontando”. “Prestare Servizio civile – ha sottolineato il Capo dello Stato – significa tutelare e promuovere i valori istitutivi della Repubblica e dell’Unione Europea, quali la protezione sociale, la solidarietà, il rispetto della dignità umana, valori che oltre a essere alla base del funzionamento di ogni democrazia, costituiscono un patrimonio di principi solidaristici e morali fondamentali per la crescita di ogni individuo. Ma la partecipazione ai progetti di Servizio civile non costituisce solo una straordinaria esperienza di “cittadinanza attiva”: sempre di più si va delineando come occasione di formazione e di arricchimento non formale, che si traduce per i giovani coinvolti in migliori prospettive di inserimento nel mondo del lavoro”.
Dal 1972 ad oggi la rete di enti presso cui svolgere il Servizio civile si è esponenzialmente espansa, così come si sono ampliati i settori e gli ambiti – sempre più aperti alla dimensione internazionale – in cui possono operare i giovani che decidono di intraprendere questo percorso.
“A questo proposito, sono di grande interesse – ha aggiunto Mattarella – i progetti avviati nel campo del digitale e dell’ambiente che favoriscono lo sviluppo di competenze su due ambiti centrali del Piano Nazionale di Ripresa e Resilienza: quelli della transizione digitale e della green economy”.
“Pertanto, in questa Giornata, il mio apprezzamento – ha concluso – è rivolto a tutti gli attori istituzionali coinvolti nella messa a punto di questa complessa macchina organizzativa, ma soprattutto ai tanti giovani che, concretizzando lo spirito e la lettera dell’art. 4 della nostra Costituzione, svolgono, con passione e slancio altruistico ‘un’attività che concorre al progresso materiale e spirituale del Paese'”
