Roma, 20 gennaio 2020 – La proteina che protegge l’organismo dai danni delle polveri sottili (precisamente il PM2.5) denominata ACE2 è la stessa che favorisce l’azione dannosa del Sars Cov-2. È quanto sostiene lo studio portato avanti da Mauro Minelli, immunologo e visitor professor di immunologia clinica nell’Università di studi Europei “J.Monnet”, con la dottoressa Antonella Mattei, ricercatrice di Statistica Medica presso il Dipartimento di Scienze della Vita e dell’Ambiente dell’Università degli Studi dell’Aquila. Il lavoro di Minelli e Mattei ha approfondito il legame associativo tra i tassi d’incidenza Covid-19 e due inquinanti ambientali rappresentati, oltre che dal PM2.5, anche dal biossido d’azoto (NO2), correlati a due ulteriori fattori: l’indice di vecchiaia e la densità di popolazione.
Una conferma indiretta a quanto appurato dai due studiosi arriva da uno studio pubblicato su The Lancet Planetary secondo il quale sono proprio Brescia e Bergamo ad avere il tasso di mortalità da particolato fine (PM2.5) più alto in Europa.
Nella top ten anche Vicenza (al quarto posto) e Saronno (all’ottavo). Lo studio è stato condotto da ricercatori dell’Università di Utrecht, del Global Health Institute di Barcellona e del Tropical and Public Health Institute svizzero,
