Roma, 13 aprile 2021 – “Sono trascorsi 30 anni dal giorno in cui nella rada di Livorno 140 persone persero la vita in un disastro che ancora oggi presenta punti non del tutto chiariti.
Erano madri e padri, figlie e figli, sorelle e fratelli, amiche e amici che ancora vivono in una memoria di affetti, mai scalfita dal tempo. Nel loro nome, tutti voi – dopo tre decenni – aspettate ancora di conoscere fino in fondo le cause di ciò che successe quella sera del 10 aprile 1991”. Lo scrive la ministra della Giustizia Marta Cartabia, alle associazioni dei familiari delle vittime del Moby Prince, nel 30° anniversario del disastro.
“Questa domanda di conoscenza e, quindi, di giustizia – scrive la titolare del ministero della Giustizia – richiama a un impegno che l’Italia ha il dovere di compiere. Il disastro del Moby Prince resta una ferita aperta per il nostro Paese, che non ha mai smesso di cercare quanto possa servire a illuminare i punti ancora oscuri nella ricostruzione dei fatti. Nuove aspettative sono riposte nell’ultima indagine aperta dalla Procura di Livorno alla luce delle conclusioni dei lavori della Commissione parlamentare d’inchiesta istituita presso il Senato della Repubblica. Come dice papa Francesco nell’enciclica ‘Fratelli tutti’, è ‘un lavoro paziente di ricerca della verità e della giustizia, che onora la memoria delle vittime e che apre, passo dopo passo, a una speranza comune’. Le difficoltà sono tante e il tanto tempo passato di certo non aiuta, ma sono certa che i magistrati di Livorno sapranno affrontare questo rinnovato impegno con tutta la dedizione e la professionalità che il compito di rendere giustizia richiede”, conclude Cartabia.
