Roma, 16 luglio 2021 – La Giunta Nazionale del CIP ha ufficializzato i nomi degli atleti che parteciperanno alla XVI edizione di Giochi Paralimpici che si terranno a Tokyo dal 24 agosto al 5 settembre 2021. La delegazione italiana è guidata dal capo missione Iuri Stara, Segretario generale del Comitato italiano Paralimpico e capitanata dai due portabandiera Beatrice Vio (scherma) e Federico Morlacci (nuoto) con un’equilibrata rappresentanza di entrambi i sessi, 61 donne e 52 uomini, impegnati in 16 discipline: atletica leggera, badminton, canoa, canottaggio, ciclismo, equitazione, judo, nuoto, scherma, sitting volley, tennistavolo, sollevamento pesi, taekwondo, tiro a segno, tiro con l’arco, triathlon. Nei prossimi giorni alcuni pass potrebbero essere ancora assegnati dalle commissioni composte dall’International Paralympic Committee e dalle Federazioni internazionali.
“Saremo presenti in 16 delle 22 discipline del programma – commenta il Presidente del Cip Luca Pancalli – la grande novità riguarda il sitting volley ma oltre al sitting esordiamo in altre due discipline: taekwondo e badminton”. Una trasferta impegnativa sotto tutti i punti di vista: “Siamo convinti che le federazioni abbiano svolto uno straordinario lavoro di accompagnamento a questa spedizione in un momento di grandi sacrifici a livello planetario. Sotto il profilo logistico è una Paralimpiade difficilissima ma tutti stanno dando il massimo”.
“Le ambizioni sul terreno di competizione sono quelle che da sempre rappresentano i valori del paralimpismo italiano. Quindi puntiamo su discipline come atletica, scherma, nuoto, ciclismo, e qui non posso non pensare ad Alex, ma anche tiro con l’arco. Poi naturalmente ci sono tutte le altre discipline nelle quali potremmo ottenere risultati importanti, come nel tennistavolo, nel tiro a segno, nel triathlon o nella pesistica, dove portiamo un solo atleta ma di straordinario talento. Non posso, inoltre, negare che una delle gioie più grandi sarebbe una medaglia del sitting volley. Non facile ma nulla è impossibile per chi arriva a esibirsi su un palcoscenico prestigioso come quello di una Paralimpiade. Insomma, ovunque ci sia un qualificato possiamo dire la nostra”.
