Roma, 10 marzo 2021 – In Italia il 17,4% della popolazione, oltre 8,5 milioni di persone, è caregiver, ovvero offre cure e assistenza a persone malate, anziane, disabili o non autosufficienti. Si tratta di un vero e proprio esercito d’invisibili che sostiene il welfare del nostro Paese e spesso sono persone a loro volta anziane, ma più di 390.000 sono giovani tra i 15 e i 24 anni, ragazzi che si prendono cura regolarmente di un familiare, dedicandogli tempo ed energie. A loro si rivolge Cittadinanzattiva, che lancia un questionario per conoscere quali sono le difficoltà che incontrano quotidianamente i caregiver familiari e quali sono le principali esigenze a cui vorrebbero che le istituzioni dessero una risposta. A cinque anni dal riconoscimento della figura dei caregiver in una Legge regionale (Emilia-Romagna 2014) e a due anni dall’istituzione di un fondo ad essi dedicato, l’atteso Disegno di Legge 1461 del 2019 ha formulato una “prima normazione, finalizzata al riconoscimento e alla tutela del lavoro svolto, riconoscendogli un valore sociale ed economico per il Paese”. Tuttavia questo disegno di legge è fermo al Senato da diversi mesi. Oltre a chiedere “con insistenza una celere ripresa dei lavori”, Cittadinanzattiva invita i caregiver a compilare il questionario online e a raccontare la propria esperienza. “Mi chiamo Francesca – è una delle tante testimonianze finora raccolte – e ho 32 anni. Dall’età di 13 anni mi sono occupata, insieme a mio padre, della mia mamma colpita da una malattia degenerativa molto pesante. Ricordo i sabati sera nei pronto soccorso, le notti in clinica per dormire con lei quando non potevo lasciarla sola e le tenevo la mano. Non so bene il momento in cui ho scoperto di essere una caregiver: un giorno, senza saperlo, i ruoli si erano invertiti ed ero io che mi prendevo cura di lei”.
