Roma, 24 giugno 2020 – Il commissariato di Polizia di Paola, diretto dal vicequestore Giuseppe Zanfini, ha messo fine allo sfruttamento di alcuni lavoratori stranieri costretti a vivere in dieci in appartamenti di 70 metri quadrati, con bagni rotti e inefficienti, arrestando 5 imprenditori e due stranieri, posti ai domiciliari in esecuzione di un’ordinanza del gip su richiesta della Procura di Paola (Catanzaro). I lavoratori del Bangladesh erano sottoposti a turni anche di 26 ore con una paga di 1,50 euro all’ora, costretti a mangiare a terra, a differenza degli italiani ai quali era consentito utilizzare un tavolo, e sottoposti condizioni disumane oltre che a minacce e insulti. Sequestrata anche un’azienda agricola di Amantea di cui i cinque imprenditori sono soci. L’indagine è nata dalla denuncia di un lavoratore, stanco delle condizioni disumane alle quali era costretto. Gli indagati sono accusati di intermediazione illecita e sfruttamento del lavoro di cittadini stranieri. I due stranieri svolgevano un ruolo di intermediazione, riscuotevano il denaro e rivestivano una posizione di privilegio all’interno dell’azienda. “Ancora una volta si dimostra l’efficacia della legge contro il caporalato. Continuiamo a lavorare per rafforzarla ulteriormente nella parte della prevenzione e restituiamo a questi uomini una vita e un lavoro dignitosi, togliendoli dall’invisibilità”. Così, in una nota, la Ministra Teresa Bellanova sulla chiusura delle indagini sull’operazione condotta dalla Polizia di Stato “Uomini e caporali” ad Amantea in Calabria e che ha portato all’arresto di 7 imprenditori italiani e cittadini stranieri, ritenuti responsabili del reato di caporalato.
