Per ricordare le vittime del lavoro ha realizzato un singolare albero di Natale.
Quell’albero di Natale lui l’ha voluto ben in vista sulla finestra della sua casa bottega di Rivarolo del Re, un piccolo centro delle campagne cremonesi. A Francesco Sbolzani, un artigiano prestato all’arte – come lui stesso ama definirsi – quel pino addobbato con caschetti gialli e neri deve raccontare il presente di chi, per il lavoro, è disposto a perdere tutto, compresa la vita. Creativo e brillante, questo inventore di “installazioni sociali” si dedica da dodici anni a vestire i suoi alberi di Natale con tutto ciò che serve a recuperare la speranza in un futuro migliore. Sono raccolti nella sua abitazione, lo stesso spazio che ha adibito all’hobby di restaurare mobili, a cui per una vita ha dedicato la sua fantasia di designer. Amante del bello, ma soprattutto del significato delle cose, Sbolzani – classe 1938 – non riesce a capire perché qualcuno lo chiami “vecchietto”. Una delle ultime volte è toccato a Vittorio Sgarbi raccogliere la sua meraviglia, mentre gli batteva una mano sulla spalla. E così, di pino in pino, il tema scelto per il 2019 è stato quello della disoccupazione e degli incidenti sul lavoro, due facce della stessa medaglia che per Sbolzani sono legate l’una all’altra.
– Perché ha scelto proprio il Natale per parlare quest’anno di vittime del lavoro?
Perché vedo che c’è troppa indifferenza e ci sono troppi incidenti dovuti ad una situazione di povertà che costringe le persone a lavorare in qualsiasi condizione. Se la ricchezza fosse distribuita in modo equo, forse molti rifletterebbero prima di andare a lavorare e gli stessi datori di lavoro creerebbero condizioni diverse. Il Natale per me ha sempre rappresentato una festa, sia per la casa che per la famiglia. Una famiglia intesa come comunità di tutti noi. In questi giorni ho visto a Milano, a pochi passi dal Duomo, alcune persone avvolte nei cartoni, mentre la strada era piena di luminarie. Tanta miseria da un lato e tanto spreco dall’altro. Sono questi i temi che vorrei portare avanti per sollecitare l’impegno di tutti.
– In che modo è entrato in contatto con l’ANMIL?
È stata mia figlia Vanna a mettermi in contatto con l’Associazione, anche se ho avuto interesse per gli incidenti sul lavoro sin da ragazzino. Anche noi, quando eravamo giovani, abbiamo lavorato in condizioni precarie, ma adesso è arrivato il momento di creare condizioni migliori. C’è troppo divario tra chi è ricco e chi è povero e molti sono costretti a lavorare in situazioni di pericolo, pur di portare a casa un pezzo di pane. Ribadisco che è molto grave l’indifferenza della gente. Basta pensare che, se vediamo un tentativo di furto, lo segnaliamo subito alle autorità competenti, mentre se vediamo una persona che lavora su un tetto, in condizioni pericolose, facciamo finta di niente. Non so se è più grave un furto o il fatto che qualcuno rischi di morire.
– C’è stata qualche esperienza personale che, nella sua vita, le ha fatto toccare con mano il tema della pericolosità del lavoro?
Ho frequentato la fabbrica e ho visto tante esperienze negative. Posso dire che ieri, come oggi, le persone più fragili sono le più esposte. Ho sempre vissuto nel mondo del lavoro. Da ragazzo scappavo da scuola e andavo in una bottega da falegname, dove i rischi erano evidenti. Da allora sono sicuramente aumentati i controlli, ma credo che la prima cosa da fare sia quella di mettere le persone nelle condizioni di non dover accettare un lavoro a tutti i costi per vivere.
– Crede che l’arte sia un buon veicolo per sensibilizzare l’opinione pubblica su questi temi?
Sì, ma a condizione che l’arte non sia improvvisata, ma sia in grado di trasmettere un messaggio. L’albero che ho scelto per il Natale di quest’anno è un simbolo universale e rappresenta la vita. I caschi gialli che lo addobbano indicano il lavoro, mentre quelli neri la morte. Infine la rete metallica che sorregge i caschi è la stessa che usano i muratori e che annegano nel cemento. Non basta, a mio parere, addobbare con tre lampadine un albero e metterlo davanti al Municipio. Questo non è un messaggio che dice qualcosa.
– Insieme all’albero lei ha realizzato anche un presepe. Ce ne parli
Si tratta di un’opera realizzata quest’anno e a cui ho voluto dare soltanto un tocco di colore, che rappresenta la Madonna, dietro la quale c’è un quadro della “Pietà” con gli attrezzi di lavoro di una volta, quando la casa e la stalla convivevano in uno stesso ambiente. Non troveremo vie d’uscita soddisfacenti senza rivolgere la mente al passato e lo sguardo al futuro.
– La sua ricerca parte dunque dal passato per guardare al futuro. Come vede questo viaggio a ritroso nel tempo?
A questo proposito cito una mia opera, che si intitola proprio “Viaggio a ritroso” e che ho fatto qualche anno fa per una chiesa di San Martino, un paese vicino al mio. Si tratta di una spirale, lunga una trentina di metri, con diverse stazioni, tra passato, presente e futuro. Quest’ultimo rappresentato da una grande luce. Viaggiare a ritroso significa imitare la lumaca, che fa tre giri e poi si ferma per rinforzare la chiocciola ed evitare che diventi troppo grande e pericolosa da trasportare. Se tutti noi, nella vita, ci fermassimo di tanto in tanto per vedere quello che abbiamo realizzato, per rafforzarlo e per programmare il nostro futuro, forse eviteremmo qualche errore. In un’altra opera, realizzata lo scorso anno per la Chiesa di San Francesco di Casalmaggiore, ho voluto invece rappresentare la “Rinascita della bassa”, dopo la fine della guerra che aveva distrutto molte delle nostre case. In sette cubi ho riassunto 70 anni di storia, ciascuno dei quali ha indicato un decennio.
– L’attenzione per la storia e per la natura convivono nella sua arte?
Le rispondo anticipando un nuovo progetto. Si tratta di un piccolo plastico per una installazione, ancora da realizzare, in cui voglio rappresentare il presente, cioè il passato del futuro. Molte volte noi non osserviamo con sufficiente attenzione il nostro presente, ma è soltanto così che possiamo costruire un futuro migliore. Per vivere meglio, insomma, dobbiamo dedicarci da subito alla nostra vita, a quella degli altri e alla tutela della natura, degli animali e delle piante.
– Come si considera sotto il profilo artistico?
Mi considero un artigiano dell’arte. Ho sempre lavorato e continuo a lavorare. Ero già adulto quando ho deciso di ritornare a scuola e di frequentare l’Istituto d’Arte. In questa fase della mia vita, mi diverto a restaurare mobili antichi. Mi piace fare le cose vere, quelle che servono e che hanno una loro concretezza. Mi riferisco anche alle mie installazioni, a tutto ciò insomma che ha bisogno di una struttura.
– Se potesse tornare bambino, che cosa scriverebbe nella sua lettera a Babbo Natale?
Per riprendere il punto da cui siamo partiti, chiederei innanzitutto meno sprechi e maggiori possibilità di dare lavoro alle persone. Credo che il lavoro sia alla base di tutto perché, se ognuno di noi potesse lavorare, vivrebbe in maniera più serena e forse si potrebbero evitare anche tanti incidenti. Il tema del lavoro è stata la costante di tutti gli alberi di Natale che ho realizzato, anno dopo anno.
– Farà altre opere sul tema delle vittime del lavoro?
Età permettendo, penso proprio di sì. Sarebbe importante che tutti gli artisti si guardassero attorno e si impegnassero per chi ha bisogno. Le persone, oggi più che mai, necessitano di maggiore attenzione. Quante volte vediamo distrattamente la televisione che dà la notizia di un morto sul lavoro. E anche quando si tratta di una sola vittima, quel lutto segna profondamente una famiglia e vale come se fossero cento. Io sono pronto a collaborare con l’ANMIL e l’albero di Natale con i caschi gialli e neri potrebbe diventare il simbolo di quanti perdono la vita sul lavoro.
