2! luglio 2020 – Il gruppo di lavoro composto da membri dell’Istituto Superiore di Sanità e dell’Inail ha rilasciato il presente documento, avente la finalità di fornire le evidenze tecnico – scientifiche ad oggi disponibili sull’ozono nel contesto epidemico COVID-19. A tale scopo riporta lo stato dell’arte con particolare riferimento a: status regolatorio, valutazioni disponibili a livello nazionale e internazionale, informazioni sui pericoli e rischi connessi all’uso dell’ozono, informazioni sulla tossicità e l’impatto sulla salute umana e sull’ambiente, efficacia della sostanza come virucida, sicurezza d’uso e precauzioni da adottare nella generazione in situ di ozono nel campo della prevenzione e controllo del SARS-CoV-2. Tratta inoltre le diverse applicazioni dell’ozono, dalla sanificazione degli ambienti a quella dei dispositivi, al settore alimentare, fino al trattamento delle acque. Il documento, sulla base delle evidenze scientifiche, esamina inoltre l’efficacia terapeutica dell’ozonoterapia valutandone la sicurezza d’uso, le criticità e gli sviluppi in divenire.
L’elaborato non prende in esame l’esposizione all’ozono quale prodotto involontario da irraggiamento UV dell’atmosfera né di sistemi per la purificazione dell’aria. Il documento inoltre non prende in esame altre sostanze generate in situ ad azione disinfettante o comunque sanitizzanti o altri processi in uso nel contesto epidemico COVID-19 e pertanto non consente una esaustiva valutazione del rapporto costo/beneficio rispetto agli altri sistemi disponibili.
