Roma, 6 maggio – Partirà sabato prossimo, da Ventimiglia, il Giro d’Italia a nuoto di Salvatore Cimmino, 56 anni, che con questa impresa intende attirare l’attenzione sui ritardi nell’applicazione dei Peba, i Piani di eliminazione delle barriere architettoniche e per sensibilizzare l’opinione pubblica verso una politica volta all’inclusione sociale. La partenza è prevista tra le 9 e le 10 (a seconda delle condizioni meteo marine) dalla spiaggia di Nervia, con arrivo previsto tra le 15 e le 16 (o le 16 e 17, dipende dall’ora di partenza) alla banchina del Circolo Canottieri di Sanremo. In questa prima tappa di 23,8 chilometri, Cimmino sarà affiancato da alcune unità da diporto. L’ultima tappa, salvo cambiamenti, sarà l’8-9 ottobre a Trieste.
Cimmino originario di Torre Annunziata, in provincia di Napoli, ma romano di adozione, all’età di 15 anni subì l’amputazione di una gamba, dal femore in giù, per via di un osteosarcoma. All’età di 41 anni, però, entra per la prima volta in piscina, su consiglio medico, e da lì a breve inizierà la sua sfida col mare. “La disabilità risiede nella società, non nella persona – afferma -. La mia prima traversata è avvenuta nel luglio del 2006, da Capri a Sorrento, su una distanza di venticinque chilometri. L’anno seguente ho organizzato il primo Giro d’Italia, in dieci tappe, con l’obiettivo sensibilizzare le istituzioni a rispettare i diritti delle persone con disabilità”. Le tappe del giro, in totale, dovrebbero essere quattordici.
